Tiles and grout are not waterproof. The membrane below them is — and skipping it is the most expensive shortcut in any bathroom.
Water passes through grout joints, then sits on the screed. Without a membrane it migrates to the slab, into adjoining walls and eventually to the floor below — usually showing up months after handover.
We use two-part polymer-modified coatings that cure into a seamless, crack-bridging barrier bonded to the concrete or screed. Corners, floor-to-wall junctions and pipe penetrations get reinforcing tape before the second coat.
Every wet area we waterproof is flood tested for 24 hours before tiling begins. It is a single day in the programme that eliminates the most common defect in residential construction.
For balconies and terraces, add falls correction and a UV-stable finish, since these surfaces face both ponding water and direct sun.
